Oak Class Term 4 2020-21
Hazel Class Term 1/2 2020-21
Dear Parents,
Welcome back and an extra special warm welcome to our new children and their families. We hope you all had a lovely summer and have now settled back into the routine of a school week. It is so wonderful to have all the children back in class!
This term we have P.E on a Wednesday and Thursday. The children are currently being asked to wear their P.E kit into school for the whole day on these days, along with joggers and a jumper/cardi to keep them warm in class and outside. We are keeping rooms very well ventilated so extra layers might be needed, especially on a breezy day.
Your child should have now brought home a school reading book, please try and support them practicing reading daily if you can. If you need any additional support regarding this please let us know. We are not currently using the home/school reading diary but if you would like to celebrate their efforts or if you have any concerns please email us directly. At the moment we will collect all reading books in on a Friday to ensure that they can quarantine before being given to another child.
Due to the school closures last year, all children nationally who are currently in Year 2 will be completing a Phonics Screener Assessment in Term 2. We are working hard to ensure that your child will pass this screener at the expected level. We will be in touch to explain how you can also support them at home so they feel super confident when the time comes.
Our class theme this term is Land Ahoy,
“Yo ho, yo ho, it’s a sailor’s life for me. Get your sea legs on, it’s time to sail the salty seas. Navigate, investigate and explore the world, just like Captain Cook. Make a boat, sink a ship, fly a pirate flag. Speak like a pirate, write like a poet, then weigh and measure a pirate’s booty. How do rescues happen at sea? Find out about brave volunteers and young Miss Darling, rowing her boat across stormy seas. Sing a sea shanty whilst cleaning the poop deck, then search the school grounds for Captain Longbeard’s hidden treasure. There’s land ahead. Let’s get this ship to port.”
Hazel Class have already shown such enthusiasm for this topic and have enjoyed a visit from Captain Cook himself! Along with a new class pet named Captain Feathers.
Our Class have done a remarkable job at adjusting to our ‘new normal’ and have returned to school with fantastic attitudes. Most have developed their independence and organisational skills, by managing their own workstations amazingly! Our class bubble staff this year includes: Mrs Flectcher, Mrs Smith and Mrs Fordham. We also have Mrs Jamison supporting our lunch times. These are now based both in class and in our designated play space on the playground. There is still a class communication board outside class for when Covid times are over, but until then any messages or other notices that we have for you will now come via Studybugs or e-mail. Please continue to contact either of us directly via email if required, we will try and respond on the day but this may not always be possible. If you feel we need to discuss something in person we can also arrange socially distant meeting, if required.
